Dreamboats and Petticoats

Dreamboats and Petticoats posterRock and roll, memories and summer love combine in Dreamboats and Petticoats, the smash hit jukebox musical that is presently showing at the Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End. Based on an idea by Brian Berg, the director of Universal Music in the UK, and brought to the stage by theatre legends such as Bill Kenwright, Maurice Gran and Laurence Marks, the production innovatively picks the songs that soundtracked the golden age of the 1950s and 1960s and incorporates them into a charming romantic storyline amongst a collection of young musicians. It is 1961 and Bobby and Norman are best friends who are set in competition for matters of both the head and the heart: they are both determined to win a national songwriting contest as well as the heart of the gorgeous Sue. As Bobby begins to understand that the quieter Laura has musical flair of her own they grow closer together, embarking on a rocking romance that will encapsulate their youthful hopes and dreams against a backdrop of ambition, friendship, rivalry and some classic tunes!

Adapted from the million-selling compilation albums of the same name, Dreamboats and Petticoats is an electrifying ride through the key musical figures of the era, involving songs from performers as varied as Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Shakin’ Stevens, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. The musical was nominated for an Olivier award for Best New Musical in 2010, and has garnered good reviews from both critics and, more importantly, the fans of all ages that have travelled to the Playhouse Theatre to enjoy it, with over a million people having seen the performance since its opening in 2009. Tickets are currently booking until Saturday 24th November 2012.
